Salary Range: $70,000-80,000 is the hiring salary range (i.e. the range a candidate could be offered to start) is for this role.

About OneGoal

 

Despite decades of work and millions of  dollars invested, the degree divide continues to be one of our nation’s most complex and critical injustices, with deep roots in systems of oppression and racism.  Only 22% of students from low-income communities earn a college degree, compared to 67% of their peers from high-income areas. 

COVID-19 further exposed and exacerbated inequity, with communities of color and those in low-income areas impacted at disproportionately high rates. We are looking for individuals to join us in our fight for equity during this extremely critical time.

  • OneGoal has grown from a small afterschool program serving just 32 students in Chicago to a nationwide movement that is serving some 12,500 students in six communities.
  • Our model, honed over 14 years, has three core differentiators: A rigorous, culturally relevant content and experience, cohorts of students who can support each other over the course of three years, and a teacher who supports our most vulnerable students’ long-term ambitions.
  • 88% of OneGoal high school graduates enroll in a postsecondary institution and 79% of those who enroll persist one year after high school.

The Person

 

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer and working closely with the Senior Director, Business Operations, the Paralegal Project Manager will be a critical partner to all teams in the organization by overseeing and managing the workflow of legal documents, contracts, and agreements for each team. They will own the relationship with our external legal counsel and be responsible for processing workflow internally and externally. 

 

The Paralegal Project Manager  will evolve OneGoal’s current structure and workflow for how we navigate the legal process to ensure maximum transparency, efficiency and compliance throughout the organization.  They  will continuously assess and evaluate the systems we have, the legal templates we provide, and ensure that we are working closely with our legal counsel and external vendors to protect the interest of the organization and our Fellows. 

 

With a keen eye for detail  and a knowledge of legal requirements, contract language, and industry standards, this person will be a key asset to the Business Operations office and the first point of contact for reviewing and navigating the process to create agreements with outside partners, project manage contract negotiation processes, and maintain our compliance systems. 

 

You will do this by:

 

Serving as the Organizational Legal Liaison 

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all legal-related questions by monitoring and facilitating the legal inbox 
  • Create and maintain strong legal systems and processes and steward the communication of these processes throughout the organization, and adjusting course as necessary through process feedback 
  • Project manage the tracking of open legal matters through to completion and keep the ball moving on processes 
  • Act as the legal connection point between OneGoal and its outsourced legal firm, including clear and timely engagement, communication and resolution of issues
  • Create and execute a system for managing all internal legal  support requests, including conducting an initial needs assessment and mitigating risks
  • Conduct compliance and legal research related to specific projects (for example: researching and creating draft language for policies/procedures and  safety training requirements for each state/jurisdiction we serve)

 

Contract Review and Maintenance

  • Maintain and manage the internal system/requirements for contract reviews across the organization
  • Manage the contract review and approval process, including serving as the first reviewer of all contracts and work with OneGoal’s external legal counsel to advise staff on next steps and/or  compliance measures; merge findings with emerging vendor management process
  • Advise on contract retention practices and maintain up-to-date list of contracts across the organization (including dates for renewal) in partnership with IT and emerging record retention standards
  • Serve as liaison with key external parties as related to contracts, for example: legal, insurance, third party contractors, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience of the Fellows we serve (Preferred)
  • Paralegal certification or completion of ABA-approved paralegal studies program (Required)
  • 3-5 years of paralegal and contract experience, preferably in a non-profit / education setting (Required)
  • Experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration, support, and service (Required)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interpret policies and procedures (Required)
  • Experience in managing complex and interdependent projects (Required)
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and sensitivity to the organization’s legal and compliance matters (Required)
