Mentorship to Support Postsecondary Success

x

Students from low- and high-income communities aspire to earn a degree or equivalent credential at similar rates. However, too many students—the vast majority of whom are students of color—are left to confront economic, academic, and social barriers that make it almost impossible to achieve their greatest postsecondary ambitions.

At OneGoal, we know that building relationships is a key part of closing this degree divide. In our classroom-based solution, OneGoal Program Directors build long-term relationships with their Fellows to understand their unique circumstances and explore their long-term ambitions based on their personal values, identity, and intentions. After two years of a teacher-student relationship, Program Directors continue to support Fellows as mentors during their first year of postsecondary education.

  • What does it mean to be a mentor?
  • What elements are critical to supporting students to postsecondary success?
  • How does OneGoal prepare Program Directors to be mentors to Fellows?
  • How can you foster mentor-mentee relationships in your own community?

Learn from former Program Director and current OneGoal staff member Morgan Taylor and alumna Lunessa Charles about their relationship and what they hope others can learn from their experience.
