The Need in Metro Atlanta

By 2020, 60% of jobs in Georgia will require some type of postsecondary degree. Earnings potential also increases dramatically with postsecondary attainment; a bachelor’s degree holder will earn about two and a half times more over their lifetime than someone with only a high school diploma. While high school graduation and college enrollment continue to improve in Atlanta, persistence to postsecondary completion continues to elude many of our city’s students. Of Metro Atlanta high school graduates, only 27% obtain a postsecondary degree or credential within five years.

Community Commitment

OneGoal is part of the Achieve Atlanta portfolio and began serving Fellows in the fall of 2017. We partner with Atlanta Public Schools and the DeKalb County School District to deliver our teacher-led, in-school model to Metro Atlanta’s high school students.

Being a Bright Spot

OneGoal was recently selected as a Post-Secondary Success Bright Spot by Learn4Life, a community initiative composed of school districts, communities, businesses, and nonprofits with a shared belief that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their potential.

“That’s what OneGoal is all about: placing itself in the student perspective and serving as a guide and advocate for the students as they navigate the college application and persistence process, whatever their situation. That can make all the difference between earning a college degree and never making it onto a college graduation stage.”
